About

Soul & Motown Wedding Band Hire London - The Phenomenals

The Phenomenals is London’s finest wedding and function band specialising in live music for award ceremonies, drinks receptions, dinners, first dances, and evening receptions. The band is incredibly versatile and performs breath-taking renditions of the great pop, funk, and soul anthems from the 50s right through to the current top 40.

The Phenomenals are flexible in their line up, allowing them to fit the requirements of your budget. There are 5 vocalists in the band, and you can change the line up of the band to your preference. As a band of musicians, each member has been selected for their high standard of performance and their talent, therefore we can guarantee that you will be more than impressed by the band. Our band is composed of the best of the best singers and musicians out there, on top of this these musicians are rigorously rehearsed. This dedication from everyone in the team is what gives us such a good reputation, and is what captivates audiences wholly.

Members of The Phenomenals have performed at famous venues like the Shepherds Bush Empire, Wembley Arena and the O2, and also on the renowned sultry stages of London’s gig circuit including venues such as the Jazz Café, Ronnie Scott’s, and the 100 Club. But the band are always ready to pop on their bow ties or glitzy dresses to perform at 5 star venues many of which they are already familiar with, such as The Ritz, The Dorchester, and London Marriott Hotel.

The Phenomenals members have performed at a bewildering variety of functions, in prestigious locations globally. Their versatility is evident through the number of events they have headlined for cruise ships, birthdays, weddings, leavers’ balls, bar mitzvahs, casinos, and corporate events proving they can blend seamlessly into any occasion. This weight of experience is married with impressive educational backgrounds with conservatories such as the Royal Academy of Music, Tech Music School, and London College of Music. There really is no musical challenge too big or too obscure for The Phenomenals.

Many members of The Phenomenals are classically trained, jazz enthusiasts who love nothing more than an impromptu jam. Each member of the band has their own passion and being experts in their field they have succeeded in playing with some of the greats like The Wailers, Sly & Robbie, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Martha Reeves and The Vandellas, and The Osmonds to name but a few. Several of The Phenomenals’s members have been sought out by record labels for recording contracts, and have been able to support acts such as Girls Aloud, The Saturdays, The Jonas Brothers, and Eliza Doolittle. Other members have played for West End shows including Jesus Christ Superstar, Beauty and The Beast, and Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat.

With hundreds of shows under their belts, The Phenomenals are masters of their craft and can ensure your special occasion is a night to remember. The Phenomenals’s charismatic stage presence coupled with being the most professional musicians in the industry can make your dream event become a reality. Whatever your vision is, be it a 10 piece band with full horn section, a romantic acoustic duo, or a smoky jazz trio, The Phenomenals are the answer.

The band were superb, Najwa and Claire's vocals were amazing and the musicians were brilliant. I thanked them in a drunken state over the mic but please send them a sober thanks, they were excellent. Tamer & Mira, London, Wedding, April 2017

Fantastic experience with the band for my wedding day - tailored set list fantastic sounds the dance floor was never ever empty and the DJ kept us dancing until the venue literally pulled the plug on the music. Our first dance was amazing and sung so beautifully in their own version. I can't thank you enough I'm looking for another event to hire them Jen &Tom, Wedding, Cambridgeshire, April, 2017

The band were excellent and really well received!! Adam, London, Awards Ceremony, March 2017

Amazing party band. Great tunes, great performance, great vibe. Thanks! Louise, London, Christmas Staff Party, December 2016

Really fun band for our Christmas party - amazing vocals and really got everybody dancing! Hannah, London, Christmas Staff Party, December 2016

Absolutely fantastic. We held joint 50th/21st and 18th; Everyone was dancing all night long. The band were amazing and loved by all generations. Rhona was very professional in the organisation and very accommodating and the band were exceptional. It made the party - thank you. Angus, Bertie & Natasha, London, Birthday Party, December 2016

The band were absolutely amazing. We couldn't have asked for anything else from them. Claire is an amazing singer, and they had our guests on the dance floor for the whole evening. If you are thinking of booking a wedding band, make sure to go for this band, you will not regret it! They were also completely flexible with timings, and even came to set up early so they were not setting up when our guests were there. I would recommend them to everyone I know!!Sophie & Chris, London, Wedding, July 2016

Najwa and the band were not only incredibly talented but they also went out of their way to bring a party vibe to our 1920s wedding, making sure all our guests were having a fantastic time! The dance floor was packed throughout and their special requests songs meant so much to us as the bride and groom. We couldn't have asked for better entertainment, and all of this was made possibly through Rhona's flawless planning. Thank you to the band, we would book again and definitely recommend to others!Becky & Ed, London, Wedding, December 2016

We had a really perfect experience with the band at our Wedding Celebration in Putney. Before the event the communication and planning with Rhona was clear and on point; selecting a set list was easy given the wide variety of styles available and Rhona was a able to direct us towards certain songs that the band played especially well. At the event, the band played wonderfully, bringing a great energy and enthusiasm to the evening. Getting the bride and her dad on stage to sing was a wonderful touch, as was their willingness to play an encore and hang around chatting at the end of the night. All members of the band were very talented musicians and they all worked together like seasoned professionals. Both singers deserve special mention Claire for her soulful vocals and Najwa for her ability to work the crowd and engage with the audience. We would highly recommend the band and would book again without hesitation. Nic & Simon, London, Wedding, December 2016

This band performed at our work Christmas party to a hard crowd but were an absolute hit! Had us all up dancing. Great set list. Great musicians. Amazing singers such great choices and they had lots of smiles for us and had us singing along. Shelley, London, Christmas Staff Party, December 2016

Thank you to you and the band… they were fantastic and the duo. Nothing but compliments all around. You were wonderful to deal with…. Thank you for all your help and patience! Everyone was dancing and the duo was terrific. Music was just fantastic… would definitely use you again. Alex, London, Birthday Party, September 2016

Just want to say a massive thank you to everyone last night! As we knew it would be, it was amazing! Great song choices and really kept the party going till we sadly had to stop! Natasha, Croydon, Corporate Awards, October 2016

Just wanted to send a quick thank you to you and the band for playing at our wedding. I'm not sure if they reported back, but the weather was TERRIBLE and everything was rather delayed so I think they were waiting around for quite a while, so I'm sorry for that. However, despite the weather, we had an amazing day and the band were absolutely brilliant! They were exactly what we wanted and had people up and dancing from the first note!! Thanks for your help in the run up and your advice on the set list. I'll try and recommend the band to friends getting married so I get to hear them again ;) Bex & Dan, Exeter, Wedding, August 2016

Just wanted to let you know that the band were all amazing on the night - we had such a great time and all our guests commented on how impressive the band were - the dance floor was busy all evening. Please would you pass on my thanks as I didn't get a chance to thank them all individually before they left and I really want them to know that they made it all perfect, especially giving up the keyboard for the first song as well! Thanks for all your help in organising everything, it was exactly what we wanted. Sally & Phil, London, Wedding, October 2016

We booked Tthe band for our beautiful wedding all the way in Devon. For the finer points of the booking we dealt with Rhona who was a pleasure to deal with and always available to answer any queries. The band themselves were beyond our expectations, they really made our evening party special and both singers were amazing! We had so many compliments from the guests and all the other suppliers wanted to know where they had come from. The band really interacted with the guests and got myself (the bride) and many of the children to sing too, which everyone loved! We are both so grateful for what a special touch they added to our day. Angela & Franc, Devon, Wedding, July 2016

What a performance! We are so pleased that we chose your services for our wedding reception. This band are by far the best live party band we have seen. They were amazing! From learning our first dance song and singing it beautifully, to performing Mr Brightside twice (it’s one of my favourites), and then allowing Molly to perform ‘Valerie’ with the band, the evening was perfect. We would like to sincerely thank you for all the effort you and the band put into making the wedding reception a memorable event. Your friendliness, professionalism and assistance in working around our busy schedule so that the band sound checked early surpassed our expectation and we will definitely recommend you. Tim & Maria, Hampshire, Wedding, July 2016

We booked this band for a special event we were hosting at a cinema- they were superb. Despite giving them a lot of information at the last minute, they were flexible and forthcoming and really had our audience dancing and cheering. I'd highly recommend them to anyone! Nia, London, Everyman Cinema, May 2016

We loved the band and everybody gave them rave reviewsKathy & Darren, London, Wedding, May 2016

We were beyond thrilled with the band, they were fantastic and really exceeded our expectations. We had lots of great feedback from all of the guests and our other suppliers were all asking where they were from! They really made our special day even better, thanks so much for all your and the bands efforts, especially coming all the way to Devon! Angela & Francesco, Devon, Wedding, July 2016

We were both absolutely delighted both with the 4pc and full band. Many of our guests were continuously telling us how great the band was and I'm sure I've never been at a wedding where the dance floor was so full!! We were honestly so so pleased - in both instances it really made the day. I'm so incredibly grateful to you all for putting on such an incredible show. It really was just perfect - they aced it. Oh and booking Claire was a bloody good shout! Best decision we made (after booking you all in the first place of course!) Laura & Chris, Sussex, Wedding, July 2016

Everything was great thanks - from booking, to the band turning up, setting up, performing - I felt completely at ease the entire time and didn't worry at all - having a supplier like that is fantastic for your wedding! I have no hesitation in recommending you. Thanks once again for really delivering on the day (and letting my dad sing!!Sally & Ian, London, Wedding, July 2016

I recently had this band play at my wedding, what a wonderful experience. We had opted for the 4 piece knowing that the addition of the drums would probably encourage a little more grooving on the dance floor. We weren't wrong, the floor didn't empty from the start of the night to the finish. Najwa was a star, her voice is brilliant and she actively encouraged audience participation (which was quite a highlight). No request was too big, we had asked they join in part way through our first dance song, which they agreed to do and it made the occasion all that more special, the floor was filled within moments. As with most weddings our schedule was over running, the band fit in with us every step of the way, they were polite, professional and friendly, it was an absolute pleasure to have them part of our special day. All of our guests commented on how great it was to have a live band. The booking process is very easy and their manager answered all queries promptly, she helped with all sorts of guidance along the way to ensure our event was perfect. If you are thinking of a live band for your next event I can highly recommend the band. Many thanks to Rhona, Najwa and the band. Leah, London, Wedding, March 2016

We had this band play at our wedding in June and they were simply fantastic. We really can't say nice enough things about them. The booking process ahead of time was very smooth and they delivered in huge style on the day. We had a two piece during the pre-lunch drinks and then a six piece band in the evening which created an incredible atmosphere...that our guests wouldn't stop talking about. Frankie, Essex, Wedding, June 2016

Please thank the band so much, we truly think they made the occasion all the more special. They definitely added a WOW factor. Our guests have all commented on how great they were. They allowed and actively encouraged audience participation which delighted many of our guests (especially the ones who could actually sing!). They arrived early and were very accommodating to our schedule as we did run slightly behind. Najwa was absolutely brilliant, she worked the crowd and looked amazing. Having the band join in our first dance song saw the dance floor filled from beginning to end. Hopefully they enjoyed the night, the brides certainly woke up having thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Ewan dropped off and picked up everything exactly when he said he would and always communicated updates with us. The process of booking, setting up and the actual event was all too easy. Thank you for your help in arranging all of our particular requests and getting us started with the spotify list, it made our job of organising this wedding that much easier. Nicky & Leah, London, Wedding, March 2016

We booked the band because I really liked their voices on the demo youtube videos, and as a lot of our friends are professional musicians, wanted to have a band with powerful voices. We were so happy with our choice! The band sounded brilliant, and really got people on the dance floor. The songs in their repertoire were really appropriate, and, most importantly, they sounded and looked great. The other good thing about the band was how easy they were to communicate with and how responsive they were. Our every interaction with them was super professional. We were so happy with our choice. This band really are an awesome wedding band! Natasha & Coryn, London, Wedding, December 2015

What a night! We were playing guess the song. Ewan your musical director was lovely and they all seemed to enjoy the evening. I would hire them again in a flash! The entire process was hassle free. The guests were impressed by the duet. Lee-Ann Diaz, London, Birthday Party, January 2016

They were really good, lots of compliments all round, and very accommodating when a few intoxicated guests grabbed the mike, or wanted to play the drums...please pass on my thanks to all, and I will definitely recommend to others, and consider for future use. Amy Boden, London, Corporate NYE Party, December 2015

We absolutely LOVED the band! They made the night and our guests thought they were awesome too! We were hoping they would be great, and I was sure they would be, but on the night they were even better than we had hoped for, they did a really great job!Natasha Porter, London, Wedding, December 2015

Paul and I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you for the fantastic job the band did on our wedding day. We had an amazing time and I’m pretty sure I danced to every single song! We had loads of comments saying how good the band was and I would thoroughly recommend you to my friends. Many many thanks for a fantastic job! Rebecca & Paul, Surrey, Wedding, October 2015

The day was brilliant and so were the band. Claire and Najwa were so good. So glad we booked you. There were many comments on how good the band were. We enjoyed every minute and seemed to get a great reaction from the crowd! Laura & Tim, Essex, Wedding, October 2015

Thank you so much for Thursday evening, you guys went down really well. We would 100% use you again. Julie Leggatt, Croydon Corporate Awards Ceremony, October 2015

The singer that came was absolutely fantastic and knew how to work the crowd, so much so that everyone was aching the next day due to the fact that they didn’t want to leave the dance floor with the great songs that she kept singing!!Gina Grasso, Hertfordshire, Wedding, May 2015

Everything from the acoustics to the choice of music was perfect. Everybody thought they were fabulous and they managed to get everyone dancing!Massi & Renata, London, Wedding, August 2015

Please thank the band for making the evening amazing, being professional and well organized. The full band including the brass created a full complete sound which many of my guests commented on. The dance floor was filled! I have spent the last week receiving compliments saying how good the band was and how did I find you! In particular the Florence songs were fantastic.Adrian Coe, Kent, Birthday Party, August 2015

We were very happy with the organisation of the whole thing and the band in particular. They were very good and professional, and created great atmosphere! Lana Gower, London, Disco Birthday Party, August 2015

FAQ

How long do you take to set-up?
The minimum set up time required is 60 minutes. However it's best to schedule in 90 - 120 minutes to mitigate any unforeseen issues that might arise. The band will work quickly to set up and sound check as soon as possible. Sound checking is very important for us as it means we'll be able to avoid poor sound quality, feedback, and other technical sound issues which could arise throughout the performance. A good sound check means you'll get a great performance.

What time do you play?
Any time to suit you, standard prices are for 2 hours of live music, anytime between 6pm and 1am inside Greater London, or between 6pm and midnight outside Greater London

How long do you play for?
We’re flexible! Usually we do 2 x 60 or 3 x 40 minute live sets in the evening and can provide either a pre-mixed disco (tailored to your tastes) or a crossfading bespoke playlist designed by you before, in-between and after live sets, so your whole night of entertainment is covered in one booking. We can also perform up to 2 hours’ worth of an acoustic set as an add-on, which is perfect for during drinks or dinner.

Do you have your own PA and lighting?
Yes – all included in the price.

Do you have Public Liability Insurance and PAT tested equipment?
Yes.

Will you perform our first dance?
Yes, as long as we have two weeks’ notice we will learn the first dance of your choice.

How much space do you require?
Generally speaking a 3 x 6m space is just enough for the full 10 piece band. However if your performance space is smaller than this we will most likely be able to position band members to accommodate everyone. The space sizes listed below can be considered as comfortable minimums for the band: 10 piece - 5x3m 9 piece - 5x3m 8 piece - 4x3m 7 piece - 4x3m 6 piece – 2.5x3.5m 5 piece – 2.5x3.5m 4 piece - 2x4m 3 piece - 3x2m 2 piece - 2x2m

How much power do you require?
2 x 13 amp sockets is fine for our system.

Do I need to provide food/drinks?
All the hard work the band puts in from traveling to your venue, setting up, and working well into the night makes the band quite hungry and thirsty! So they would very much appreciate being fed and watered either before their performance or during a break. They don't expect a 3 course meal, and they won't drink on the job if you don’t want them to, but it's true that a happy band always results in a happy performance.

Size of Line up
We can provide the perfect band to fit your budget, ranging from duos through to our full 10 piece band. We are also happy to add extras on if you wish. Below is the line-up you can usually expect depending on the size of band requested: 10 piece band - 3 vocals, guitar, bass, keys, drums, trumpet, sax, trombone 9 piece band - 3 vocals, guitar, bass, keys, drums, trumpet, sax 8 piece band - 2 vocals, guitar, bass, keys, drums, trumpet, sax 7 piece band - 2 vocals, guitar, bass, keys, drums, sax 6 piece band - 2 vocals, guitar, bass, keys, drums 5 piece band - 1 vocal, guitar, bass, keys, drums 4 piece band - 1 vocal, guitar bass, drums 3 piece band - 1 vocal, bass, guitar 2 piece band - 1 vocal, guitar

Travel
We are based in London, and are happy to travel to any gig within Greater London for free. We are always happy to travel further afield for a performance, and we do frequently travel outside of London for shows. We have set fees to cover our travel expenses and overnight accommodation if required.

Choosing Songs
One of the things we pride ourselves on is our repertoire which has over 400 songs in it spanning multiple genres. And what’s more is you get to pick exactly what you want to here. Ain a standard 2 hour set we cover 32 songs. Once you book the band we encourage you to pick your favourites from the repertoire and leave the ordering up to our musical director to create medleys and flow within the set. We’ve been doing this for a few years now and know what works well on the dancefloor.
If you’d rather hand the reins over to us that’s more than fine, or if you’d like you can use the traffic light system where you highlight which songs into green, amber and red categories and leave the design up to our musical director.

Band Members Falling Sick
As a working band, we work with a roster of official 'deps' or understudies ready to step in at a moment’s notice should an unforeseen circumstance occur. They are professional well-rehearsed musicians representing the best talent out there, and for this reason we can guarantee the quality of our performance will not falter. Therefore you can be safe in the knowledge that if a band member falls ill we will be able to have another member of our collective step in seamlessly.

Sound Limiters
We can work with sound limiters! We have a few tricks up our sleeves for making sure you and your guests still get a slamming performance without cutting the power via the sound limiter. We can go acoustic, meaning we can have drums replaced by cajon or the drummer can use a smaller kit and even use feathered drumsticks or hot rods to reduce the decibel level. We can also have guitar and bass use less wattage for their amps and go acoustic if needed. We’ve dealt with sound limiters up and down the country and can confidently say a sound limiter won’t be a problem.
