Soul & Motown Wedding Band Hire Manchester - LD Band

The LD Band specialise in classic Soul, Motown, Disco and Funk but also cover dancefloor hits from other genres including Indie, Rock and Reggae. Every song is chosen for its dancefloor impact and the band will bring a fun, party atmosphere to any event, be it a wedding, birthday, festival or conference.

The band is available in three formats, the 5 piece, 4 piece or a compact trio, making LD Duo the perfect choice for venue sizes ranging from the corner of a bar to large hotels and concert halls!

They can also provide additional live classical piano, classical guitar or solo vocal performances as background music during the earlier phases of your event, and the acoustic duo LD Duo can be booked as an add on at a heavily discounted rate.

This means when you book the LD Band they could provide a variety of musical entertainment for every phase of your event  - acoustic musicians, live band, recorded music and PA, DJ service, lighting and a radio microphone connected to the PA for you to make speeches and announcements.

As regards the DJ service, once booked they'll build your ideal playlists in advance, and with immediate access to thousands of hits from the last 6 decades, but can also satisfy the vast majority of music requests on the day.

For weddings your first dance can be learnt by the band even if it is not in their advertised repertoire.

For additional peace of mind, LD Duo! have deputy musicians who rehearse with the band and can usually cover for last minute emergencies and the band has Public Liability Insurance of up to £10million.

Set lengths can be adjusted to fit in with auctions, raffle results and speeches. Clothing can be funky or formal. Arrival and set up times can usually be arranged to minimise disruption to guests.

Just writing to say a big thank you to the three of you for making our "Dad and Daughter" birthday party for Roger and Jennifer such a good evening. I hadn't told Roger that I had booked a band until the week before when I printed your playlist for Roger to choose the type of music he would like for the evening! Our aim was to keep people on the dance floor all evening, and once we got people started I think you achieved that for us quite easily! We had a great time, with many messages over the weekend from people saying how they enjoyed it. Great guitarists and super vocalist. Julie Coleman - Birthday Party - June 2018 (Disley Golf Club)

FAQ

1) What LD Band Provide:

What about music between the band's sets?
There are several options. The band can provide you with a DJ service through their PA (a higher spec system than most mobile DJs would provide), or you can plug your own mp3 player or laptop in to their PA (the band have the connection cables), or you can hire an independent DJ in addition to the band. With the extensive stage and dancefloor lighting the band provide, along with the thousands of recorded hits instantly available on their laptop, an independent DJ is normally not worth the extra expense, and will potentially clutter the venue.

Can they provide live Dinner Music?
Yes. The band can offer a whole range of options for more intimate or ambient music during your function's cocktail or dinner phase. Depending on their line up on the night, these could include classical or lounge piano, popular songs sung by their lead vocalist using professional backing tracks, classical guitar or a selection of popular songs performed by their pianist and lead singer. This is an extra service for which there would be an additional fee added to the overall quote. Note that a reasonable period of at least 30 minutes must be allowed between completion of this phase and the start of the band's first set.

Will they play our favourites from their repertoire?
Of course please let them know and the band will make sure they include them in their sets. If you want them to perform a song during a particular phase of the evening that's fine too! Furthermore, if you have a favourite song that isn't in their repertoire, and you have booked more than two month's in advance, then the band may be able to learn it for you!

Will they learn a special one off song for us?
Yes. If you've booked more than two months in advance the band offer to learn any song you specify.

Will they learn and play our first dance?
Yes. If you've booked more than two months in advance the band will learn your first dance. If convenient you can even come to a rehearsal before your wedding and hear them play it beforehand. And after the big day they'll even send you a professionally recorded and mixed recording of it in mp3 format.

2) On the Day

What Time will the Band Arrive?
For an evening event the band typically arrive at around 5:30pm. Set up will then take between 60 and 90 minutes, culminating in a 10 minute sound check at full volume. The band always time their set up to avoid any overlap with the arrival of the first guests. In some circumstances an early set up may be needed to achieve this.

How Long Does the Band Play For?
The band will always adapt to your function, but typically play for two hours in two sets with at least fifteen minutes between sets. the band can break this in to several shorter sets if required (sometimes appropriate at Charity Balls to allow fundraising periods to occur in the intervals). Their maximum set length without a break is 90 minutes. This works well as a main set in combination with a 30 minute one before the buffet.

At What Time Does the Band Play?
The band will play any time you like. For an evening event, it will usually be between 8pm and 12pm. In their experience, to maximise your guest's enjoyment and involvement, you should avoid having them play during food service. Also try to time their final set so that it falls late enough in the evening for your guests to be merry and ready to have fun on the dance floor, while ensuring the majority of guests get to see the band before they have to leave. they'd also advise allowing enough time for people to arrive and settle down socially before the band's first set. This is especially important at weddings where reception only guests need time to catch up with the day guests.

Will the Band Require Refreshments?
The band always appreciate soft drinks and a snack during the event as it can be a very long and energetic day for them. It's not something the band require, but the band like to be able to plan in advance to avoid incurring hotel/venue prices.

It's a Black Tie Function. Will the Band Dress Accordingly?
Yes. No matter where the band play they are always smartly clothed but for a black tie event the band will certainly wear formal evening attire if requested.

How Does the Band Dress?
The band always dresses smartly no matter what the venue. If you have a theme then please let them know and they'll do their best to fit in with it. Beyond that the look will either be funky or formal. Funky is bright and colourful while formal is mainly black and white with waistcoats and ties and formal dresses. For 70s themed events the occasional afro wig, glittery platform shoes or bell bottomed trousers may make an appearance! Note that during arrival and set up the band members will wear more casual clothes and change in to stage cothes once the sound check has been completed.

Can a Guest Get Up and sing With the band?
Yes, as long as the band know in advance who they are and which song they want to sing. When the band reach the point in the evening where they play that song they'll give them a big introduction and invite them up on stage. In everyone's interest the band will never accept impromptu requests by audience members to get up on stage with them during a performance.

3) The Venue & Event

What sort of Venues will the band Play At?
They'll consider any venue as long as there is power and adequate protection from the elements. they've played at just about every conceivable type of venue from intimate house parties and cosy bar corners to major hotel suites, festivals and theatres. The band will require suitable access and facilities to unload and bring their equipment in to the venue. Please note the band will also decline requests to perform at venues where they believe the safety of the band, the band's equipment or guests may be at risk.

What Type of Events Have the band Played At?
They've played weddings, birthdays, corporate parties and awards nights, garden parties, charity balls, christmas banquets, theatres, ticketed New Year's Eve parties, retirement parties, nightclubs, festivals and quality bars and clubs.

Do We Need to Hire a Raised Stage?
No. A stage certainly creates a more impressive theatrical effect, but the band play as many venues without stages as they do with them. However if you do hire in a stage please note the full piece band requires a minimum area of 4m x 3m and the three piece an area of around 3m x 3m.

How Much Space Do the Band Require?
The band's multiple line-ups and choice of different setups make them adaptable to just about any venue. However, the full five piece band requires a minimum area of 4m x 3m and the three piece an area of around 3m x 3m.

What are the minimum power Requirements?
The band require at least 2 independent 13 amp sockets within 10m of the performance area. For marquees and generators please note that their total draw is approximately 4kw and a single 16amp power supply would therefore be sufficient.

The Venue has a Sound Limiter is this a Problem?
Not at all as long as the band are aware of it in advance. A sound limiter monitors the volume of sound in the room, and automatically cuts off power to the stage if a threshold is reached. Acoustic drums (or amplified acoustic drums) are the biggest risk, but their drummer will avoid this by bringing his electronic drum kit which makes no significant sound until amplified through the PA. The trio version of the band, MiniLeFunk! uses self produced backing tracks for the drum and keyboard parts, so is also unaffected. The question that should perhaps instead be asked, is whether you are happy to have such a restriction imposed on the volume of music at your event.
